Three CV mistakes you should avoid
Sep 24, 2022Writing a CV is not fun, but it’s an essential part of the job search. Here are three mistakes more than 90% of people make in their CVs that they should avoid at all costs!
Mistake #1
Careless mistakes such as typos and grammatical errors. This can be a major turnoff for hiring managers.
Solution: On MS work, click review, then spell-check. After that, use free software like Grammarly to cross-check. Ask someone in your network to proofread.
Mistake #2
Using overly used business jargon like a hard-working, driven, go-getter. Instead of standing out, these words make you sound like everyone else.
Solution: Instead of saying you are hard-working, show it in your own work experience. Example: “Executed social media campaign that increased sales by 7% and brand awareness by 30%”. The key is to focus on the result.
Mistake #3
Having a CV of more than two pages. On average, the hiring manager spends six seconds on your CV, so make it easy for them by being precise.
Solution: If you are a fresh graduate, try to keep your CV to one page and if you have work experience, keep it to two pages max. 91% of recruiters surveyed by Reed.co.uk, a leading job posting platform, suggested recruiters prefer a CV with max two pages unless someone is an Executive and has a long history of work experience.
And did you know 76% of resumes are rejected for an unprofessional email address?
